z - In memorium - Steve Whitfield MJ0SIT

I am sorry to have to record the passing of another fellow radio amateur and friend, Steve MJ0SIT who had a keen technical mind and a wonderfully dry sense of humour. We studied our advanced amateur radio license together a few years back and Steve had been a big help understanding many of the technical aspects without which I know I would have struggled. I hope I was able to help him too with some other aspects of the hobby and his obtaining the full license he craved so he could operate oversees as well on his regular visits to St. Lucia where he operated under the callsign of J68IT. Steve often attended radio club nights, even in the depth of winter turning up on his motorbike but would usually be away by 9pm, Friday was 'curry night'!

Steve was a fan of the goons and of 'proper' music (rock and roll, David Bowie etc.) and was kind enough to help with some open heart surgery on a sickly radio I had, I was pleased to help with some ladder duty, rigging wire antennas at his home in town. It was a pleasure to find out more of his preferred aspects of the hobby and to draft an item about him and his shack for the June 2009 radio club newsletter which is saved elsewhere on this website.

Farewell Steve, you will be fondly remembered as a helpful and kind friend who always had time for others.
